Founded in 1831, the University of New England is a 4-year research institution. UNE, which is near the heart of downtown, is in Biddeford, ME. This research university is the the fourth oldest and the fifth biggest institution in the state of Maine. It offers seven certificates, two degrees at the associates level, 30 degrees at the bachelors level, nine degrees at the masters level, and two doctoral level degrees to students. 5,168 students sought degrees from the 45 programs at UNE in 2010. This university offers subjects including teaching and social work. The New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education accredits UNE. It is the only institutions with a medical school in Maine.
