Biomedical Engineering

145 biomedical engineering schools are located in the United States. These schools offer biomedical engineering certificates and degrees at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. A program in biomedical engineering prepares students for careers as biomedical engineers. Many students will study subjects such as engineering, mathematics, and physics.

Overview

As of 2012, there are 145 institutions offering biomedical engineering in the United States. 99 institutions offer degrees at the bachelor's level in biomedical engineering and 117 institutions offer degrees at the graduate level in biomedical engineering.

A bachelor's level degree in biomedical engineering typically requires 4 to 5 years of coursework and depending on the institution, may be a Bachelor of Science degree, a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, or a Bachelor of Arts degree. While just over a third of the undergraduate level students in biomedical engineering pursue degrees at the masters level, around 19% of students pursue degrees at the doctoral level. Students can pursue graduate level biomedical engineering degrees such as Master of Biomedical Imaging and Signals degrees, Master of Arts degrees, and Master of Science degrees.
