When I was young and lived in New York City my father had a monoscope. We used to go the roof of the building at night and look at the stars and galaxies in the sky. I have been hooked on astronomy ever since.
By trade I am a programmer. My second great love is
robotics & Robosapien robots. When I am not editing for the
Open Site Project I am an
ODP editor for Computers/Robotics/Robots, a
MusicMoz editor, and obviously an
Open Site Project editor for the
Science/Astronomy category. I am also a
robot fan of the wonderful
Robots.net robotics web site. I also moderate the
Robots.net forum and maintain a web site for
robot and android enthusiasts at
RobotsRule.com. My latest experiment is to use Genetic Programming to make a
Robosapien robot learn to dance. I can't wait for the
Robosapien V2 to be released so I can adapt my software to it's advanced capabilities. I am now the proud owner of a
Roboraptor robot and will be learning how to modify him soon. I'll be reporting on those experiments in my
Roboraptor Review blog as they unfold. My most recent addition to my toy robot collection is an
i-Cybie robotic dog.
I recently got a
Roboreptile which is not the same dinosaur robot as the 3 foot tall
Kota The Triceratops dinosaur robot and I have already begun blogging about it on my
Roboreptile Review blog,
Robosapien RS Media when they become available. These are the fabulous new robots WowWee debuted at the recent 2006 Consumer Electronics show. On a humorous note, WowWee followed up quickly with the
Spidersapien, a webbed toy robot avenger and a Homer Simpson themed robot known as the
Homersapien. Homer's in good company with the joke telling
Tri-Bot robot and his amazing three wheeled holonomic drive base..
I have also been experimenting with the new Yahoo! Maps API. I put the concert tour dates of my favorite band, Blue Oyster Cult (
Don't Fear The Reaper) on a map so I can see where in the USA they are playing next.
Hot News! There are at least two new robots being debuted by WowWee in 2007. The first is the
Flytech Dragonfly which is a flying robot that flaps its wings like a real bug, and the second is the long awaited
Robosapien V3. But the one robot you won't believe your eyes is the girlfriend to WowWee's original Robosapien, the
Femisapien dancebot, WowWee's first
female robot ever.
[Update] Sadly the V3 will not be at the CES 2007 show but WowWee is demonstrating a four legged spider robot it calls the
Roboquad that will be available this fall, 2007. Another new robot is the robobear from WowWee called the
Robopanda. I intend to
buy Pleo and get each of these new WowWee robots too; and a bigger place to live!
On the programming front I am learning Ruby and
Ruby On Rails.
On the lighter side of life I have made a spoof of the famous Numa Numa video made famous by Gary Brolsma. It's called the
numa numa english song. The lyrics to the parody are on this page:
numa numa lyrics.
My latest blog reviews robots and my first entry covers
reviews on Roomba. I've also begun a blog concerning UGobe's
Pleo dinosaur robot. It will be released this summer and if you'd like to talk chat about it, come to my new
Pleo forum. The
Pleo dinosaur is almost here and I believe that the
Ugobe Pleo will win the hearts and minds of the mainstream consumer. Every tech junkie and media outlet that has seen the
Pleo robot has been charmed and so will the average consumer. Even though I haven't been lucky enough to get one yet, I look forward to writing my own
Pleo review in the near future and already have begun work on a portal for the
Pleo Dinosaur.
CES 2008 brought us a batch of new robots from WowWee. The most interesting is the
Rovio telepresence robot. The
WowWee Rovio allows you to monitor your home remotely and easily create patrol routes with its point and click navigation software. Another intriguing entry was the
FlyTech Bladestar, a flying machine that consists of a spinning propeller (blade) with the unique twist of having sensors that allow it fly on autopilot. The hand held
WowWee Roboremote remote control can store sequences of commands for nearly all their robots and play them back at the press of a button.
Fisher Price has finally really entered the robot toy market with the
Elmo Live Doll. With an estimated release date of Octoboer 2008,
Elmo Live is the most recent Elmo based toy robot coming from Fisher-Price. He waves his arms, stands and sits, and even sings while telling jokes and stories. Hot on Elmo's heels is Thinkways
Ultimate Wall-E robot.
Ultimate Wall-E robot appearance and behavior is based on the movie character. This new addition to the
Wall-E Toys family line really shines.
You can't get one of these two new robots just yet but you can
pre-order Elmo Live for those of you that want to
buy Elmo Live. Similarly, if you just can't wait you can
pre-order Ultimate Wall-E instead of waiting to
buy Ultimate Wall-E.
I spend a fortune on batteries so my new
Batteries Plus web pages is there to help people learn about and save money on rechargeable batteries. And finally, my new blog I proudly call The
Best Selling Toys blog will provide coverage of the toys and toy robots side of the electronics and gadgets market. To see this page in other languages please use
Google Translate service.
