Interview with Lufiaguy & Icurite

by Berk

When Lufiaguy joined the OEP on October 29, 2003, he edited in the Games/Video Games/Lufia Series category. His scope of work soon expanded to include other games, before he embarked on larger projects, such as the Open Site Forum (open-site-talk.org) used to discuss Open Site topics with the public. Lufiaguy became an Editall on April 11, 2004, and quickly advanced to Meta the next month for "outstanding editing, communication, and leadership skills."

Icurite joined the OEP in January 26, 2004 as an editor for the Arts/Television/Programs category. His interest in media is further visible through the Media and Publications sub-categories he created throughout the encyclopedia tree. Recognized for "outstanding ontology and editing skills", Icurite was promoted to Editall two months later. He became a Meta at the same time as Lufiaguy.

Q: How did you find out about OEP and what made you decide to join?
A: I was originally an ODP editor, and saw the links to their sister sites. I noticed that the Games/ branch at Open Site needed some help, so I applied for the Lufia category. Open Site is a nice change to editing at the ODP, and no matter what others say, it is not an ODP clone!
Q: How did you find out about OEP and what made you decide to join?
A: I first found out about Open Site on that link on the bottom of ODP. I looked around and a week later I applied. I was accepted on Tuesday January 26, the second to last day of the summer holidays.
Q: What does your nickname mean and how did you come up with it?
A: Well, Lufia is one of my favorite RPG series, which I run a website about
( http://www.planetnintendo.com/lufia/ ). The guy is in my name because that's what I am! Lufiaguy is pronounced "loo"-"fear"-"guy"... please don't take that literally!
Q: What does your nickname mean and how did you come up with it?
A: OK, so you're wondering why I chose an inpronounciable name that resembles a Nickelodeon monster, right? Well, take your pick. There are almost 10 different possible interpretations of the name and that is what I love about it.
Q: What do you do in your off-line life?
A: I think about what I'm going to do on Open Site when I next log in! Actually, I haven't been doing much off-line as I've had a lot of exams the past month.
Q: What do you do in your off-line life?
A: I am a school student doing my 3 years of NCEA, an examination process spread across the whole year so you never have time to relax.
Q: Besides OEP, what do you do for fun?
A: ODP, internet stuff, Simpsons, movies, camping, wondering when I'll get the chance to visit New Zealand again...
Q: Besides OEP, what do you do for fun?
A: I used to play soccer (the only type of 'football' in my opinion) which is my favourite sport. I like athletics. For fun I spend time at the gym or long distance running.
Q: What are your favorite OEP categories to work on?
A: Games/Video_Games/, Business/, and Arts/Music/. Society/Sexuality/ is also pretty interesting...
Q: What are your favorite OEP categories to work on?
A: I've got stuck into Project Stub, history, the Kids Encyclopedia and more, but my greatest interest is in the media. I've also got stuck into New Zealand.
Q: What are your short- and long-term visions for OEP?
A: In the short term, icurite's Project Stub will probably finish as most of the empty categories have been filling up nicely. In the long term, hopefully great things will happen: detailed articles will be everywhere, we'll have more active editors, we'll have that new index page, and hopefully more public interest will be generated by connecting the public forum with certain categories. In short: the future looks good.
Q: What are your short- and long-term visions for OEP?
A: In the short term I'd like an encyclopaedia that covers almost as many topics as ODP has categories for. This is one aim of Project Stub. In the long term I'd like an encylopaedia that covers almost every aspect of human knowledge. Hey, what can I say, I'm a dreamer.
