Giving Back to the Community
by trystan
You've filled up one, or maybe more categories with information. You've kept
up on forum posts in your branch, and you've utilized the Help and
Test/Editors/How-To categories to get you up to speed with new tools and
features. Maybe now you're thinking, "What next?" or "What can I do to get more
involved with Open-Site?" Well, you are definitely in luck. There are many ways
to contribute to the Open Site community.
1. Add more content.
This is probably the best (not to mention most obvious) way to help Open-Site.
There are still vast areas of the directory that have yet to be developed, as
well as many empty categories. When you hear others speak of content being King,
they aren't kidding. This is the meat and potatoes, folks... the real nitty
gritty. The directory is based on the amount of content we have, and any
contribution is worthwhile and appreciated.
2. Talk up a storm.
Sometimes it takes a newcomer, a new perspective, or someone non-partial to the
topic to push a stagnant discussion towards resolvement. Feel free to wander
into a different Topical forum than where you normally edit. Perhaps you might
have some knowledge to help other editors, or you might be inspired to take up a
new category.
3. Make some suggestions.
Bring us your ideas for new projects and features in the forum. Feedback on new
tools and features, as well as new projects to help make Open Site better are
always worth taking into consideration.
4. Become a mentor.
After getting a firm grasp on how Open Site works, why not extend your knowledge
to new editors through our mentoring program. This is a great way to develop and
display your leadership skills. Feedback either trystan or alnilam to get more
information.
5. Become an InfoBuster.
Sometimes even the greatest editors make a spelling or grammatical error now and
then, and sometimes various information sources can have discrepancies. An
InfoBuster looks for these errors and records them into a special Test category.
After which he or she can either contact the category editor or post in the
forum the errors which he or she has found so that they can be corrected.
