One Editor Account, One Person

Open-site editor accounts are issued solely for the use of the person who applied for it. Accounts should not be shared with a relative, co-worker, or friend; encourage them to apply for their own accounts instead. Accounts discovered to be shared among multiple people may be removed.

Only one Open-site editor account per person is permitted. Former editors, whether they timed out due to inactivity, resigned, or were removed, should submit an account reinstate form. Former editors who have rejoined the Open-site under a new account, or persons with multiple editor accounts, may be returned to their old ID, reduced to one account, or completely removed, at the discretion of Open-site managing editors and staff.

For technical reasons, and to preserve the editing records and audit trails, we are not able to change a person's editor ID once it has been issued.

Special Types of Editors

Open-site has special types of editors, that help at the management of the editing community.

Category Publisher (Publisher)

A Category Publisher has the ability to perform taxonomy management functions inside a specific tree of the project. A Category Publisher can:

  • rename categories in a certain category.
  • delete categories in a certain category.
  • create new categories in a certain category.
  • publish unpublished content.

Manager

  • accept new editors.
  • review / Accept / Decline editor applications.
  • grant categories to editors.
  • remove editors and categories from editors.
  • warn editors.
  • view editor warning logs.
  • access the private manager forum.

Root

The purpose of the root editors is to:

  • maintain the editing environment operational.
  • push the management of the community towards the managing ("Manager") editors.
  • build the environment required for the future growth of the project.

The promotions are granted by Open-Site administrators based on discussions inside the manager community. While Open-site Staff reserves the right of final decisions in these cases, much of the process of evaluating and selecting the candidates for those positions is performed by the administration community, which represents the primary contact point for editors regarding this process.

Reasons for Removal

From time to time, the community might decide the removal of an individual editor in order to maintain the integrity of the project. Manager and staff editors have discretion regarding editor removal. Reasons for removal include, but aren't limited to:

To apply for reinstatement, please email staff@open-site.org.
