A combination of different features in sailing and surfing, Windsurfing has originated in Southern California about 40 years ago. This water sport was developed by a pair: a sailor and a surfer, This Windsurfing entails the use of windsurf boards or a sailboard, which is the primary piece of equipment used. Windsurf boards are powered by a single sail, and usually measures up to five meters long.

For recreational sailors, 15 to 25 knots are the ideal wind conditions for wind surfing. Sailing, steering and turning are the basic skills in windsurfing, and these can be learned within a few hours. Windsurfing is a very dynamic sport. Various kinds of maneuvers, such as spins, jumps, and loops can be done. Windsurfing also has disciplines, and these include slalom, speed sailing, freestyle, and course racing.
