Rafting is a water sport that makes use of an inflatable raft in navigating rough bodies of water, mainly white water rivers. The primary piece of equipment in Rafting is, of course, an inflatable raft. Rafts come in various types, and it is important to choose a raft that can withstand turbulent waters, collisions with rocks, and all sorts of river obstacles. Moreover, it is important to consider the river classification, ability level of the guide or the rafters, among others.
Since rafting entails tackling all sorts of river water conditions, white water rafters should know the essential skills and techniques. These include paddling, oar strokes, as well as maneuvering. Aside from the technical know-how needed to keep a raft going, white water rafters should also know the different safety procedures, such as what to do when the raft capsizes.

Navigating Whitewater Rivers naturally needs a raft to carry paddlers around. While there are different kinds of rafts to choose from, there are some things that a paddler should consider. These include rapid classification and the skill level of the guide or the rafters, among others.
The biggest crafts used in rafting are the rigs. Rigs can carry a lot of passengers and are least likely to capsize. Paddle boats, which range from 12' to 14' in length, can be used in different kinds of rivers. These boats capsize easily, though, than the heavier and larger oar boats. Providing more stability, oar boats can carry rafters even during high water levels. A combination of paddle and oar boats are the assisted paddle rafts, which provide effective maneuverability. Inflatable kayaks are small crafts ideal for only one paddler, while catarafts are made up of two flat-bottomed boats connected together by a metal frame. The latter is used in conquering rapids, as well as in carrying load.
Whitewater rivers are wet and wild so appropriate clothing is essential. Paddlers should wear something that would keep them warm and protected. Wetsuit, dry suit, shorts, and bathing suit are some of the clothing articles paddlers can wear. Examples of footwear, on the other hand, include sandals with straps and neoprene bootees. Paddlers can also bring rafting accessories such as bail bucket, water-purifying filter, multi-purpose tools, and waterproof container/bags. Safety is always a primary concern in white water rafting so paddlers regardless of skill level should wear helmets and life jackets. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen for ultraviolet protection are also necessary.
