Officiating Duties


The officiators of a game of softball is called the 'umpires' and 'linesmen'. These officials ensure that the official rules of softball are followed at all times, the Minimum Safety Standards are maintained for the health of the players.

They are also a mediator of conflict, and determine when the pitch is a 'strike' or 'ball' and when it is hti is 'fair' or 'foul' (refer to Terminology).
