The opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics Games in the Greek capital of Athens saw a celebration of Greek mythology and Olympic history. A parade of 202 national Olympic teams in Greek alphabetical order featured over 10,500 athletes, with notable appearances including the Afghanistan team, which hadn't attended for several years under a Taliban government, the Iraqi team, which had been tortured in previous years by Saddam Hussein's son Uday, and the Korean team, which included athletes from North and South Korea walking together and holding hands.
