Buffalo Bisons Info:

The Syracuse Stars relocated to Buffalo in 1940 to become Buffalo's first professional hockey team. A new 2.7 million dollar arena "The Aud" (Memorial Auditorium) was built and a tradition began. The Bisons played in the American Hockey League (AHL) from 1940 to 1970. During this 30 years the team was affiliated with different National Hockey League (NHL) parent clubs including the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers. The Bisons enjoyed many successful seasons. They won the Calder Cup five times 1943, 1944, 1946, 1963 and in their final year 1970. The Bisons also made it to the finals five other years to play for the Calder 1948, 1951, 1955, 1959 and 1962. The Bisons ceased operations in 1970 largely due to the fact that Buffalo was awarded an NHL expansion team which would move into Memorial Auditorium the following season.
