Coach and team manager Red Dutton renamed his struggling New York Americans for the 1941-42 National Hockey League (NHL) season. Dutton had every intention of playing in Brooklyn put could not land a suitable venue. The team instead practiced in Brooklyn but played their home games at Madison Square Garden. The 1941-42 season proved to be the last for the franchise because of talent loss due to the war and travel restrictions placed on NHL teams.
