The Art Ross Trophy is awarded each year by the National Hockey League to the player who leads the league in total points scored at the end of the regular season. The trophy is named after and was presented to the league by NHL Hall of Fame legend Art Ross in 1947. Mr. Ross was a long time player, coach and general manager of the Boston Bruins. Though the league had scoring champs since its beginings in 1918 they lacked a trophy for the distinguished honor until Elmer Lach of the Montreal Canadiens became the first official recipient of the Art Ross Trophy at the end of the 1947-48 season.
