General Information

There are two professionistics league in Italy: "Lega A" (previously called "Serie A") and "Legadue" (previously called "Serie A2").

Lega A is formed by 18 teams and is managed by the association "Lega Società di Pallacanestro – Serie A";
Legadue is formed by 14 teams and is managed by the association "Legadue".

Both of these associations are formed by the teams that play in the respective leagues.

In Lega A and Legadue there is a Regular Season (in 2002/2003 leauge will be played respectively 34 and 26 days) and then Play-Offs (and Play-Out).

Play-Offs are formed by:
Qualifying Round, based on three matches, with 8 teams (four matches), from fifth to twelfth classified in the regular season;
Quarter Finals, based on five matches, with 8 teams, the 4 Qualifying round winners and the first fourth classified teams in the regular season;
Semifinals and the Final, both based on five matches.
