Franchise History

The Cleveland franchise was one of the original teams to establish the American League in 1901. During their first season, they were known as the Cleveland Blues. In 1902, they were renamed to the Broncos. After one year as the Broncos, the team’s name was changed to the Naps in honor of their future hall of fame second baseman Napoleon Lajoie. After Lajoie departure from the team in 1914, the team name was revised to an earlier baseball team’s name in Cleveland, the Indians.
