The Boston franchise was one of the first teams admitted into the American League in 1901. The team was known then as the Boston Americans. In 1902, the name of the team was changed to the Somersets. From 1903 to 1906, the Boston franchise played under the name of the Pilgrims. In 1903, the Pilgrims won the first World Series in Major League Baseball History. The name of the team was changed to the Red Sox at the beginning of the 1907 season.
