The Arizona Diamondbacks baseball club was established on March 9, 1995 as part of the Baseball Owner's Major League Expansion. The first game was played on March 31, 1998 in Phoenix Arizona at the Bank One Ballpark.
After their first year of operation, Randy Johnson was acquired to stiffen up the pitching staff. This acquisition would prove to be instrumental in the team's success over the next few years. In 2001, just three years after the first game, the Arizona Diamondbacks would make World Series history by beating the New York Yankees for the 2001 World Series Championship.
