Prostitution is the selling of sexual favors or the undertaking of sexual intercourse for money.
It is considered to be the world's oldest industry, with sacred prostitution thought to be the first example of such practices. Prostitution may be in the form of street prostitution, brothels and escort call services. Prostitution is the main contributor to the development of sex tourism and in certain countries and areas unlicensed prostitution may be a factor in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, usually as a direct consequence of unsafe sexual activity, such as not using condoms, having poor medical monitoring and/or the employment of intravenous drug users as sex workers.
