General Information

To speak of Jesus, God the Son, in Christianity, is to speak of the second person of the Holy Trinity. Jesus often referred to Himself as the Son of God and as the Son of Man. By taking flesh, by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus made all human beings His brothers and sisters. Thus comes the expression for Christians that they are the sons and daughters of God the Father by adoption. Jesus is the person conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. Thus, Jesus is both true Man and true God in the one nature. Jesus has a Divine Father from Eternity and a human mother in time.

A small part of the life of Jesus is shown in the Holy Gospels, written by Saint Matthew the Apostle, Saint Mark, Saint Luke, and Saint John the Apostle. Of course, not the whole life of Jesus is available in such a small number of Gospel Books. As Saint John the Apostle says in his Holy Gospel, “There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written” chapter 21, verse 25.

By His own power, being God, Jesus performed many miracles during His time on earth. He healed the sick, exorcised the possessed, raised people from the dead, and the most glorious miracle of all, He raised Himself from the dead. Once risen from the dead, He appeared in a glorified, resurrected (not resuscitated) body to all the Apostles and to numerous disciples, before ascending into heaven. Jesus promised them that there was a place waiting for all in Heaven, and required of His disciples to wait in prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Once they were possessed by the Holy Spirit, the Church was founded; Saint Peter and the others immediately began to preach to the multitude and convert thousands at their very first sortie.
