General Information

Christianity is a religious belief system based on the teachings revealed by Jesus Christ. Followers of Christianity believe that Jesus is the Messiah that was prophesied about in what we now call the Old Testament of the Bible.

Christianity had its origin in Judaism, a religion which holds that there is only one, single, eternal, invisible God, who created the world and desires its welfare. Christians also believe that there are three persons in the one nature of God - God the Father (the creator), God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit (the Protector that was promised by Jesus before He rose up to Heaven); although these are not three separate gods, they are three separate persons in the one same God. This is most often known as the Holy Trinity.

Christianity's scriptural reference is the Bible, particularly the New Testament, in which part of the life of Jesus and parts of His moral and spiritual legacy are recorded.

As recorded in the World Christian Encyclopedia, by the year 2,000, there were 33,280 different Christian denominations in the world. More than 50% of Christians belong to the Roman Catholic Church, which now has over 1 billion members world wide.
