History

1933 - David Lawrence begins the weekly newspaper United States News.
1939 - Lawrence starts a magazine entitled World Report.
1948 - Lawrence merges the two publications to create US News and World Report.
1962 - The employees of US World and News take ownership of the business.
1983 - US News and World begins annual rankings of colleges.
1984 - Mortimer B. Zuckerman, chairman of the New York Daily News, buys the business.
1987 - US News introduces America's Best Colleges suplement with the college rankings.
1993 - US News becomes content provider for CompuServe Information Service.
1994 - US News introduces America's Best Graduate Schools.
1995 - USNews.com is started.
