Federal Judicial Service:
U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit
Nominated by Theodore Roosevelt on February 4, 1903, to a new seat created by 32 Stat. 791; Confirmed by the Senate on February 18, 1903, and received commission on February 18, 1903. Service terminated on December 16, 1910, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Supreme Court of the United States
Nominated by William H. Taft on December 12, 1910, to a seat vacated by Edward D. White; Confirmed by the Senate on December 15, 1910, and received commission on December 16, 1910. Assumed senior status on June 2, 1937. Service terminated on February 8, 1941, due to death.
