Received a recess appointment from Grover Cleveland on April 18, 1887, to a seat vacated by Samuel H. Treat; nominated on December 20, 1887; Confirmed by the Senate on January 19, 1888, and received commission on January 19, 1888. Service terminated on January 26, 1901, due to death.
