Operation Overlord

The invasion of Normandy, the most well-known of the "D-days" during World II, began on 6 June 1944. Operation Overlord, as it was called, required thousands of soldiers to perform amphibious landings and hundreds more to parachute behind enemy lines. After approximately eleven months, Germany surrendered on 7 May 1945.
