General Information

The word "psychology" comes from two terms. "Ology" or study, and "psyche," soul or mind. Therefore, one derives the definition "study of the soul or mind."

Psychology can also refer to the study of mental processes and behaviors. It explains how and why creatures (including humans) react the way they do when presented with different stimuli.

Psychology is broken down into several areas of specialty, and even into different schools of thought, some of which include behaviorism which deals with "training" the mind to react in certain ways, and Gestalt psychology which sees the "bigger picture" and considers the mind to be part of a larger whole.
