Demography is the study of the human population's characteristics. Demographics measure numbers of a certain population trait or quality, such as: growth, size, distribution, density and vital statistics.

If one refers to the demographics of English speakers, one is speaking about how many people in the world use English as their language of communication. English is spoken around the world, either as a first or native language, by approximately 341,000,000 people. In addition, approximately 165,000,000 people speak English as their second language.
