Description

Solar energy is the direct and in-direct solar radiation we receive from the sun. Examples of in-direct solar energy are the wind (where wind patterns are influenced by the sun), biomass (where the sun allows crops to grow), and ocean thermal gradients. Solar energy is the key behind the efficiency of solar panels (cells), as the greater the energy from the sun, the more efficient the solar panel can be.

Photons & The Photoelectric Effect

Photons are a key ingredient of the suns rays (solar energy). These photons are also the key ingredient which a solar panel needs to produce electricity. When a solar cell absorbs energy within the suns rays, the photoelectric effect occurs. This photoelectric effect results in the flow of free electrons which is your electricity.
