Golgi Apparatus

The Golgi apparatus is responsible for post-translational processing and sorting of proteins. This organelle has a polarity, where the cis side is located toward the nucleus and opposite the trans side. Proteins destined for secretion enter the Golgi apparatus via vesicles. They migrate from the cis toward the trans side and eventually leave via secretory vesicles.

The Golgi apparatus is invisible with the H&E stains, but appears magenta with the PAS stain due to its glycosylation function in protein processing.
