Biography

NAME: Maxim Victorovich Suraev (Major, Russian Air Force)
Test-Cosmonaut of Yu.A. Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center

PERSONAL DATA: Born May 24, 1972, in Chelyabinsk. His parents, Victor Grigoryevich Suraev and Varvara Vasilyevna, reside in Noginsk, Moscow Region. Married to Anna Alexandrovna Suraeva (formerly Khorokhordina). They have one daughter. His hobbies include yachting, tennis, autotourism, computers, sport games, theater, museums, and books.

EDUCATION: In 1989, Suraev finished high school in Noginsk and entered the Ejsk Higher Air Force Pilot School. In 1994, he graduated with honors from the Kachin Air Force Pilot School as pilot-fighter. That same year, Suraev entered the Zhukovski Air Force Academy from which he graduated with honors in 1998 as pilot-engineer-researcher.

EXPERIENCE: At the pilot school he flew L-39 and Su-27 (Flanker) aircraft. Suraev has logged around 500 hours of flight time.

He was selected as a test-cosmonaut candidate of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Cosmonaut Office in December 1997. Suraev has finished basic space training.
