The major Oceania news media is very focused upon the major cities, in particular Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. The heavy focus on them means less notice of other Australian capital cities, New Zealand main centres and regional centres, although local centres are serviced by local media, like local television and radio stations as well as numerous newspapers. For example stations like WIN Television in Ballarat, Australia have daily news bulletins through the week, and regional newspapers like the Waikato Times in Hamilton, New Zealand provide some local news coverage.
There is a strong media focus on the capital or major cities in Australia, and especially the largest metropolitans. News programmes like Nine National News are broadcast seven days a week from each capital city and daily papers operate to specifically target those capital cities.
A select group of companies dominate the Oceania media industry. Publishing and Broadcasting Limited owns the Nine Network and a group of magazines spread through Oceania and Asia. Fairfax owns many of Oceania's leading newspaper titles, including The Melbourne Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Wellington Dominion-Post and The Christchurch Press. News Corporation owns several Australian newspapers and dominates the pay television market through the Foxtel service. The New Zealand radio industry is a competition of New Zealand Herald owner Australian Provincial Newspapers and America's Clear Channel Communications against a publicly-listed subsidiary of Canada's CanWest.
