Climate

The climate of the Wellington region reflects, in most respects, a balance between the warm conditions to the north and cool temperatures of South Island regions produced by Antarctic winds.

The most notable feature of Wellington weather is the strong winds that have become a claim to fame for the region. Wellington City averages about 20°C during the summer and 12°C in the winter.

Wairarapa reaches an average daily high of 23ºC in summer and 13ºC in winter. There are about 1900 hours of sunshine and 979mm of rainfall on average each year.
