Petone is considered New Zealand's first organised settlement although much of the settlement was moved to avodie the floods of the Hutt River. Today, Petone is something of a coastal suburb of Hutt City, offering historic attractions and restaurants close to the shores of the Wellington Harbour.
Popular among visitors is the Jackson Street Walk of Champions that remembers famous residents of Petone, the seaside Pentone Settlers Museum, the MacKenzie Baths and the Petone Fair Day.
