New Zealand operates 12 instruments, 11 of which are in New Zealand. The New Zealand instruments are operated by two scientists: Richard McKenzie, who works for the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA) and Gerald Smith, who works for IRL. NIWA has operated UV spectrometers that have been building a UV climatology in Lauder, New Zealand since 1989. In 1995, NIWA and NOAA began a collaboration to build a climatology of the spectral distribution of UV radiation at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii.
Richard McKenzie knows of a couple more instruments in New Zealand (Christchurch and Hamilton). However, as far as he can tell, they are not being maintained as "going concerns". Also, over the summer of 94/95 they have a Brewer Monochrometer performing cross calibrations. All instruments listed above are still operational. Maps and coordinates of the above locations have been provided and are in the binder. Complete surveys for each site are non- existent except for the Antarctic site. The only missing information is how often measurements are taken with each instrument, as well as the date at which some of these instruments started. The time line produced showing New Zealand's instruments does not seem to be as complete as the list we have compiled.
