Colville was once a major Kauri milling settlement, but the Colville Bay country town now relies on local artists and farmers to support its economy. A small local town general store has the appearance of a previous era, yet is relied upon for supplies in the remote area.
To the town's north is the Moehau Ranges and the localities of Port Jackson, Port Charles, Waikawau, Little Bay and Whangahei. To the south is Kennedy Bay, Amodeo Bay and Papaaroha.
There is land-based activities like mountain biking and horse riding as well as water-based activities like kayaking and fishing.
