Okato is based on Stony River, which leads down from Mount Taranaki. A variety of golf courses, gardens, artists, fishing spots and beaches are located in Okato and the area to the south that includes the localities of Tumahu and Kaitake. Cape Egmont lighthouse is situated to the south.
