Gore is a town internationally known for its angling opportunities and calls itself the "World Capital of Brown Trout Fishing." Visitors to the town are welcomed by a giant spotted trout representing the district's main attraction.
Every June Gore is also home to the 10-day Country Music Festival which features the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards.
The town is famous for the Hokonui Moonshine Legend which involves fiery spirts rising from the Hokonui Hills, clearing visible from Gore. The Hokonui Moonshine Musuem presents this infamous era of prohibition.
Gore is home to New Zealand's only oat mill and is the commercial centre to a farming area evolving primarily around sheep.
