Rangiora is connected to Rawene by a ferry and is the end of the main Kokukohu Road, which leads off from Mangamuku Road off State Highway 1. It represents the area where the Hokianga Harbour contracts, but the inlet widens a short distance to the east.
Continuing west along the minor roads are a series of small localities, most along the northern coast of Hokianga Harbour. Also to the west is the Panguru Range which extends to the Whangape Harbour.
