Ninety Mile Beach is an official New Zealand road that is accessible by foot, bus or off-road vehicle. Despite its seclusion and limited access points, Ninety Mile Beach is home to an ultramarathon and what is claimed to be the largest annual surf-fishing competition in the world. Attractions include tuatua shellfish, sliding down giant sand dunes, photograph opportunities and land yachts. The beach is actually 64 miles long, which surprises many. The locality should not be confused with another beach of the same name in Victoria, Australia.
