Overview

Hokianga Harbour is an inlet that reaches to the horizontal centre of the North Island.

Various settlements are located near or along the shores of the inlet, notably including the beaches of Omapere and Opononi near the sea and historic towns like Kohukohu, Horeke and Rawene further inland which originate from some of the first European settlement in the country. A ferry connects Rangiora and Rawene, with road from both towns leading to the state highways.
