Description

Cape Reinga is an iconic New Zealand locality, often said to be the country’s most northern point (although such title actually goes to the nearby inaccessible Surville Cliffs). According to traditional M äori beliefs, Cape Reinga is the departing place of spirits of those who recently passed away.

A sealed road leads from Kaitaia up to Waitiki Landing, beyond which point an unsealed road covers the rest of the journey. A short walk from the visitor car park leads to a lighthouse and the meeting of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
