Whanganui Inlet is situated near Golden Bay and Pakawau Bush Road covers the full distance between the two, which is the full width of the North Island at that point. Around the outside coast is Meroiti, Kaihoka and Rakopi. To the south-west is the isolated localities of Te Hapu, Mangarakau, Paturau River and Anatori.
