Nelson Lakes National Park is the mountainous area that include Lake Rotoroa, Lake Rotoiti and numerous other lakes. Also within the boudary is Mount Maling, Mount Burn, Mount Ella, Mount Franklin, Mount Travers, Cotterell Peak and Mount Hopeless.
The 102,000 hectare park has two alpine lakes, beech forest and steep white mountains as backdrops. Visitors enjoy a huge variety of outdoor activities including walking and tramping, swimming, boating, fishing, horse trekking, skiing and advanced alpine climbing.
