Overview

Murchison is a former gold-mining settlement on the Buller River, to the south of the Kahurangi National Park. River-based local activities include brown trout fishing, kayaking and white-water rafting. There is a local museum that displays the gold-mining history of the district and an annual Agricultural and Pastoral Show is held each February.
