Kahurangi National Park takes up about one third of the Tasman District. New Zealand's second largest national park has various walks, including the well-known Heaphy Track which links Karamea to the west, Murchison to the south, Motueka to the east and Golden Bay to the north.
Within its boundary is the Hope Range, Arthur Range, Tasman Range and Wakamaramu Range, as well as various rivers and lakes. The highest points of the park inlcude Mount Allen, Mount Kendall, Mount Patriarch, Mt Owen, Mt Hope, Mount Peel, Mount Arthur, The Twins, Mt Domentt, Mount Snowdon and Mt Inaccessible.
There are approximately 2270 native plants species in the park, including at least 67 that are exclusive to the park. There is also extensive wildlife, including around 100 native birds, like the great spotted kiwi.
