Farewell Spit is the longest natural sand bar in the world and frames Golden Bay. It is the most northern point in the South Island. Four wheel drive tours that depart daily from Collingwood trvel to the end of Farewell Spit at Bush End Point, near which a lighthouse is located.
The main attraction of Farewell Spit is the wildlife, especially the Arctic seabirds who use Farewell Spit as a southern nesting ground.
