Fielding is a farming town on the banks of the Oroua River. It has won the "New Zealand's Most Beautiful Town" award several times.
Fielding is the second largest center in the Manawatu district. Many historic buildings are located in the town that were built in the Edwardian style, with renovated Manchester Square in the town centre maintaining the Edwardian theme.
The economy of Fielding is based around the surrounding farming areas. It is internationally recognised for cattle breeding and the sheep and deer saleyards are the largest in New Zealand.
Popular visitor attractions in the Fielding area include the gardens and transport museums. Makino Park is located on the Oroua River's eastern bank, while on the opposite side of the town Kowhai Park is considered by many as an ideal picnic spot. Neighbouring Manfield Park hosts many events throughout the year, including the regional agricultural field days.
