Hastings is a city very near Napier in Hawke Bay. Situated in the fruit-growing and processing are of the Heretaunga Plains, the city includes several orchards. A large proportion of the city was rebuilt after the 1931 Napier earthquake. Of note are the public gardens of Cornwall Park and Frimley Park.
A major attraction of Hastings is its proximity to the internationally recognised Cape Kidnappers. Water-based activities include trout-fishing, jet-boating and white-water rafting and the local Splash Planet theme park and swimming complex.
