Overview

Lead by Jim Anderton, this party combined the Green Pary, New Labour and Manu Motuhake. In 1999 the Green Pary left, but even still the party remained the most popular minor party and earned a place in a coalition government with Labour. However, political problems during 2002 lead to the party splitting into Alliance and Progressive, both losing popularity following the political strife.

The new Alliance party, made up mostly of former Manu Motuhake supporters, performed poorly in the 2002 election and gained no seats in parliment. Progressive gained an electorate seat.
