Political party formed in 1994 based on the economic ideas promoted by former Labour MP and Finance Minister Sir Roger Douglas. These ideas and principles, known as Rogernomics, had strong support with free market lobbiers Vision 20/20. Richard Prebble was appointed in 1996 as leader to help improve party ratings and soon gained a strong profile, increasing party ratings significantly.
