Description

St. Andrews is a small town situated near Canterbury’s eastern coast. The town has a Golf Links course. To the north is the Pareora River that leads from the rolling hills of Waimate.

The picnic area has views out on the sea and the remains of an old and historic granary, constructed by Scottish the New Zealand Australian Land Company. It stored grain destined for Timaru. The local camping ground also provides a hotel and tearooms for visitors. Many local historians suggest the town was named after New Zealand Australian Land Estate’s first manager, Andrew Turnball, who’s nick name was Saint.
